The Australian - An exercise in futility

So again we see another article which talks up Howard's good fortunes - this time on the back of the pulp mill announcement in Tasmania.

According to their convoluted logic, internal Liberal party polling - taken BEFORE the decision to permit the pulp mill to go ahead - found that their candidate for Lyons had a primary vote of 30% (down from 42% in 2004).

As the Coalition candidate was opposed to the mill, they somehow conclude that this drop in support will be reversed with their pulp mill decision.

The Liberal candidate, Mr Quin, has since stepped down and been replaced with a pro-mill candidate.

AC Nielsen Poll - 56-44

The AC Nielsen poll has been released, putting Labor in front 56-44.

Primaries are 47 ALP, 40 LNP.

We see Labor leading in rural areas - 46-41, quite significant considering the huge farmer bailout that the Coalition revealed last week.

Rudd maintains his strong lead as preferred PM 52-39.

There's a question on economic management, and that puts the Coalition at 40% - surprise surprise, the same as their primary.
